Mini Review
[Played on PlayStation 5]
I’ve almost wrapped up the story of this classic-feeling (western) samurai out-for-revenge story.
With Ghost of Tsushima I really enjoyed my time with it, but none of its moments really lingered with me. The story in Ghost of Yōtei is a marked improvement for me - a simple and easily digestible tale… although I kind of wish that Atsu’s actions weighed on her a little more.
This game more than its predecessor feels like a spiritual sequel to Red Dead Redemption, specifically the first game. Its world and side stores all feel cohesive and music cues evoke a lonely western epic.
The combat feels better than ever and rarely did I want (if ever) to avoid confrontation. Atsu is a lone wolf and will use any tool at her disposal to eradicate the Yōtei Six. Whilst other parts of its gameplay can feel a tad lacklustre. It feels good for the most part traversing this land, you almost wish it felt just that bit more responsive.
It’s a jack of most trades and master of most. The loop and world is what keeps my hooked.
It’s unabashedly a video game and I’m ready to kill: The Spider, The Dragon and Lord Saito.
Oh yeah, I played it with Japanese voice and English subtitles. The only right way to play.
